Data.gov

May 27, 2009

It’s still in beta, but last week the Federal CIO Council launched data.gov, intended to:

increase public access to high value, machine readable datasets generated by the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.

Although the initial launch of Data.gov provides a limited portion of the rich variety of Federal datasets presently available, we invite you to actively participate in shaping the future of Data.gov by suggesting additional datasets and site enhancements to provide seamless access and use of your Federal data.

Currently available datasets include data from AHRQ, BEA, CDC, NCI, FDA, and USPTO.  Looking briefly, I can’t say that there’s anything that isn’t already available by going to each of the sites, but it certainly portends many possibilities as far as a central clearinghouse for information and being able to do detailed BI / CI analysis & research.
